A productive classroom environment, in my view, is one where students are motivated to learn and engaged with the content, allowing the teacher to competently convey the new information from the curriculum in a meaningful and successful way. Kent (2007) comments on the benefits of the Interactive White Board (IWB) in the classroom, and how it can establish a cohesive learning environment. “Teachers can promote higher order thinking for deep understanding, lead substantive conversations and present knowledge as problematic, open to multiple interpretations”. Technology is changing and developing everyday and resources, such as IWB’s, concept maps and online educational games are readily available to teachers in the classroom, allowing students to become engaged with the content and motivated to learn. I strongly support the integration of technology into classrooms as it can help to to establish a cohesive and productive learning environment that promotes deeper understanding and higher order thinking.
